AYIA NAPA

MUSAN Museum of Underwater Sculpture

The famous British sculptor, Jason deCaires Taylor, created a unique “forest” with 93 works of art placed on the seabed. Inspired by nature, the internationally renowned artist approaches art as part of the environment in which he integrates his works. Thus, he makes his sculptures from inert materials, with neutral pH, so that they do not adversely affect the place where they are placed; on the contrary, over time, they attract marine life, thus enriching the biodiversity of the area in which they are placed. At the same time, of course, they offer a magical spectacle to visitors, who can tour the wonderful mute world he created by wearing a mask and a snorkel. The Underwater Museum is located 200 meters from the shoreline of ‘Pernera’ Beach in Ayia Napa and is Jason deCaires Taylor’s latest creation, with only one year of existence. The artist used his knowledge and skills as a sculptor, marine conservationist, underwater photographer and scuba instructor to create unique works of art, which respond to the space and contribute to the enrichment of marine life.
