Frenaros village is a bridge that connects tradition with the present.
The Neolithic settlement found in archaeological excavations reveals that the area has been inhabited since prehistoric times. The earliest official reference to Frenaros however, dates back to the years of the Venetian rule. According to records, it took its name from the Fréres Mineurs (little brothers) seeing as this is how the Franciscan Latin Monks who then owned the monastery of Panayia Chordakiotissa called their order.
Pancyprian Cultural Watermelon Festival: For many years now, the community of Frenaros has been organising the Pancyprian Watermelon Festival, highlighting new gastronomic recipes made with watermelon and its derivatives. At the festival, you will have the opportunity to taste fresh watermelon as well as a variety of products made from watermelon such as dessert and ice cream. Do not forget to taste the wonderful watermelon cocktail.
