President Demitris Christofias on Monday inaugurated the newly upgraded stadium of Polis. The new structure will have the capacity to host football, basketball, volleyball and handball.
Polis Mayor Angelos Odysseus said the stadium would help to promote sport in the area and called it “a jewel for Polis”.
According to the Mayor the local sports association is already participating in two programmes organised by KOA, the Athletics Association of Cyprus.
The first is the “athletics and women” programme and the second is a programme for ramblers. They will also be taking part in a further three programmes aimed at volleyball, basketball and Tae Kwon Do.
Odysseus confirmed that the total cost of the ambitious project was €2.5 million, which was made possible with the support of KOA and the ministry of education. The municipality of Polis Chrysochous contributed the amount of €700,000.
